New Life Into An Old Cottage……..(The House That Found A Home)

I loved this cottage and tried to get the owners to let me help them restore it. They wanted "new"
and could not see the potential in this magical place. A client of mine bought it so I had the opportunity to help move and save it and restore it. I wish it could have been restored where it sat because it has to be brought up the code and raised up. Here are a few finished photos. I will post the before photos on the next post.

Maddie's Seaside Cottage Surprise.........

Maddies Seaside Cottage looks tiny ..feels tiny.. but has a surprise in store when you turn the corner
off the living room. It was a porch with no view(condo's went up behind the little cottage) .  I replaced the 6 old sliding doors ( but kept the original transoms) put wood on the walls and added 2 new atrium door that leads to the fun deck and outdoor shower.

The headboards came from the attic of TS Chu department store. I left the  sale tag on one of the headboards but it got painted blue  by mistake when it got painted.

I found the fabric for the room at Printer's Alley in Raleigh NC ( one great fabric store) ON SALE  by Brunschwig and Flis

My inspiration for this room came from the fabric and it lead to a happy but very relaxing space. A great spot for relaxing, watching TV, reading a great book or just looking out the door into the huge pecan tree that gives amazing shade in the summertime.

the "hide out"
the deck and path to the outdoor shower....

Maddie's Seaside Cottage  restoration is the work of so many great carpenters, plumbers ,electricians homeowners and employees of T.S.Chu department store. Anna Lee and I created a feeling of joy , happiness and comfort for the Chu Family. It can be rented on Airbnb Tybee Island. ..it is about 400 steps to the beach .

Hello Blog World... Happy New Year .....I Have Missed You!

Sometimes work gets in the way of everything ! I love my job but it keeps me hopping with very little time to spare. I have missed not sharing my "ponderings "and memories with my blogger friends.  I will pick up where I left off in March and share Maddie's Seaside Cottage with you.
the new front bedroom..fun lights are by  Stray dog Designs .www.straydogdesigns.com
A headboard made from an outdoor rug ..saves on space and adds happy colors.  found at www.cohensretreat.com .Throw pillow www.celadonhome.com
On my last post from March 16,2016.....
                                          We began here...

Here are a few "after photos.
Black and white accents and a bright kelly green door.
A Tybee Turquoise ( jane coslick colors) painted concrete porch floor. Pink rose bushes and a brick path will be added soon.
We saved the wonderful old windows and added these  awnings to help with the summer sunshine

the bunk pillows are from WWW.celeadonhome and the round throw pillows from the"Joy"
collection at Target

a typical Tybee closet...hooks and a basket

the colors and fabrics flow to the back bedroom and sprinkle all through the  cottage.

the kitchen got new counter tops and the top cabinets around the bar are gone. It opens the space and makes the biggest difference.

the "Surprise".....

Picking Colors……When your favorite color is White!!!!

It is now time to get serious about the colors of the cottage  called Maddies Beachside Cottage. The owners have left all decisions to me to select the color and fabrics and furniture. There is one large pecan tree on the property and shades and trees are always a consideration when selecting colors.
The ocean is 1/2 block away ( the "information hut" I designed for the city of Tybee) is close by

location! location! location!
I had thought about bright and Happy colors…………………….

accents against a white cottage

Definitely a funky outdoor space

My colors

my newest color "beachy keen green"
or maybe a new mix of something  more goldish and flamingo coral
                                                      HOWEVER……..

My  personal favorite color is WHITE!!! I love it's simple calm unassuming nature…………...
MOTHER NATURES  AMAZING WHITE SHADES!!

White interiors most of all!!! ( RICHARD  JOHNSON PHOTO)
So My thoughts are many and my decision is still up in the air…or still in the paint can!!!
One large tree(with no leaves) a parking lot to the left and right of this  historic little cottage.

THOUGHTS???

There is a new and wonderful tin roof on the cottage.
